May the 17 1862

absent friend
after my respects
to you I will
inform you that
I am in the enjoyment
of extraordanary
good health at this present time and I hope that these few lines will find you in the enjoyment of the same blessings I received your kind and apoligising letter on the 16 about 10 oclock at knight but I was so near asleep when it was handed to me that I only reached out my hand and received the letter and as i drew my hand back I let the letter drop by my side on the cot on which I was sleeping / and did not know any more about it untill I got up at one oclock in the morning as that was the time that I had to get up to give the sick their medicin as I am in the hospital at this time I have spent three days and two knights in the sick room and as it was my turn to sit up in the after part of the knight the letter was quite consoling to me as it had a tendency ceep me awake and when I folded it up and put it in my brest pocket it put me in mind of the presare of the gentel hand that rote it your request of me was that you wished me to forgive you for this one time I do not know that / I have any thing to forgive you for if you have don any thing towards that is more than I can tell but if you have you are freely forgiven by me but i do not think that you have done me any harm nor offended me by riting to Joseph Zedeker or any one that you see proper to rite to and further I do not know how many letters you rote to him nor him to you nor I do not care one snap if you rite to him dayly and further you must not think that I was mad at you if you do you will think rongfuly of me for I never was angry with and still your presents would give joy to my heart and further I had no intention / to quit riting to you when I rote that letter that you spoke of mearly rote it to see wheather you had any love towards me or not I thought if you had not you would not rite and if you had you would rite to me again and now then I take it for granted that you have a little reguard for me as you rote to me after receiveing the letter that I rote and now if it is your sincier desire that I should continue riting to you I will do so and if not I will quit at once for it is all the same to me but my love towards you is as great as it ever was you will inform me of every fact that I have made mention of I must close so good by my love for a short time
