Miss Sophia Rummel
I take my pen in hand to drop you a few lines under the present circumstance I will do the best I can I am well at this present time I have bin very sick since I last wrote to you but thank the Lord I am well once more I hope these few lines will find you in good helth and enjoying you self first. I am very sorow sory that you have forgot and forsaken me I have traveld some eighteen hunderd millse since I last saw you and have saw plenty off galls but none can i find to pleas my mind so well as you and now you have forsaken mee I dont think that if i live to come home a gain to stay / for how could I stay at home without enjoying the society of you Never No Never could that bee I intend to enlist in the Regler survis and live a soldier my life time I am now in the town of memphis it is now ten oclock at night I was corporal of the gared last night and to night I am writing to my once intended dear but it apears that that hapy day is past and gone if you ware here to night you would save me the truble of writing this I have quit writing to all the galls I answered the letter I got from you while I was at tiptonville whether you got it I cant say but one thing I can say I have received now answer to this the last one I sent and it mite be your intention for me not to receive eny if you think so all / write I will do the best I can till the war is over I should so fortunate as to git threu it safe then I intend to do parte of the time as I pleas or very near it I am living in hops of do or die in dispair I dont intend to live in d[?] more that three years or till the end of the War Wee are a going to have a big party when wee come home it will bee a free pitchin wee boys intend to futt the bill I want you to come and take a shear in it if you dont if you are maried you can fetch youre old man a long and if not maried if you dont like to come a lone you can fetch a partner I must close for it is geting very late and I am very sleepy you must escuse my poore writing and blunders I send my best respects to you Nothing more at present I am in a land of Reblds and you are at home /
