William G. Gage to DeWitt C. Gage, 21 October 1863
Camp near Gainesville Va. Oct 21st 1863
Dear Father
Your letter of the 4th Oct I received since arriving with the regiment which was a day or two since.
We are not regularly encamped but have only stoped to rest a day or two.
I am in hopes I shall have better health here than I had in Washington I feel quite well to day.
I am pretty well mounted now my horse although green in the service is broken to firing all ready in fact we were skirmishing all day the day that I got back so that he got broke before the nite of his first day on the front.
There was one Corporal of our Company wounded the day that I got back.
What Hospital is Charles Voorheis at I should write to him if I knew which hospital to direct to. Love to all
From your son
Wm. G. Gage.
