William G. Gage to DeWitt C. Gage, 8 August 1863
Annapolis Md. Augt. 8th 1863.
Dear Father
I arrived here yesterday from rebeldom & I take the first oppertunity to let you know how & where I am.
I suppose you received a letter from me dated at Williamsport Md stating that I was taken prisoner on the third of July if not you must have been anxious about me.
Of course I have not the strength that I would have under different circumstances but I have got good health other wise, & expect to get strong again now that I have got to a place where I get plenty of food & of good quality
I am in nead of a great many little things which I do not draw of Government & as it will be about two month's or more I shall before I am exchanged, I shall try to get a ferlough & it will cost conciderable so that I shall nead / that money that I sent home the last time I was paid. I am sorry to send for it for I calculated to send that much home every time I was paid after that but I have got to change the program.
I should like to write a long letter but I have such a poor pen I dislike to write with it.
love to all
From you son
Wm. G. Gage.
P.S. Direct your letters to College green Barracks Annapolis Md. 7th Mich Cav.
