William G. Gage to Brother, 24 August 1863
Annapolis Md.Augt 24th 1863

            Dear Brother
I have received no letter from you since I have been here. Father wrote me he had no time to tell me the news but that you & Mother would write to me & tell it to me.

How are you getting along with that boat of ours is it in good order or does it leak. if it is in good order you can have a good time hunting ducks in about three weeks. Do you expect Cooley & Will Ball to see you this fall. Does Will get any more deer this fall or does he have as good luck as he he had last.

What have you done with the rifle have you got it yet or have you sold it can you shoot any with it I can shoot better with a navy revolver / at the same distance, but I think I could do better now.

Can you shoot a duck on the wing with your shot gun yet.

How many brick building's have there been put up since I was in Saginaw I suppose if I don't get home before my three year's are out there won't be any one there that I shall know, but I an't am not going to stay that long if they will only just reenforce Mead & Fillmore with conscripts & take care of the copperhead's I believe our generals will and this in nine month's.

I wish I could be with the regiment my health is better when I am on duty than when in barracks besides I have no very pleasent reccolections of my treatment while in the reb hands.

Love to all
W. G. Gage
