Miss June 14th 1862
 
Deair Sister iagain seat my salf to let you know that iam wall at this time I receivd yor kind letter on the 10 of this month and was glad to here from you you sead that you thot that we might write to you once and awhile we have written to all of you and have not receivd eny thing in return but one or two letters ido not think you have eny think to quarrel at well we will not say eny more about it but will say that the wore is / over genral tawes is military govner of this state and we will stay here till cold weather comes again we have got all the forts from here to New Orleans and traid is going on briskley again We are campt in avery nise grove it is very shady but for all that it is very hot and dry. Water is very carse what we do get is very warm and hardley fitto to use Well it will be one yeair the 26 day of Aug When that time expires I am coming home if I hafto take a french ferlow we air campt by the side of the / Memfos and Ohio Railroad so we can come home by rail road Philip is provose gard for genrail thomas Luke is cooking for capton gravly [?] the talor Peirce is a littel unwell and grumpeling becaus his teath is wore out eating crackers He sead if he was in Mothers cuperd he cold eat about fore pies well I must tell you what I am doing I am cooking for the company and hafto cary water haf to three quarters of amild I told the boys that they must fech the water or I wold leave / cook shantey so they hierd a man paid him 25 sents to dig a well close by the cook shantey Wall I must close and get supper Riss
