Camp at Murfreesboro
Tenn May 5th 1863
 
Dear Mother tis with plasure I take my pen in hand to let you kno how I am geting along I am well at present hopeing thees few lines may find you the same we received your kind letter day before yesterday and was glad to here from you and to here that you was well and among the land of the living Mother I sent you the battle of stone river it will be thare in about two weeks from the 2nd of this month then you can see whare our brigade fought and allso our regment you can see / whare our regment fought it is the best got up thing I ever saw and mother I want you to get it framed knice and have it hung up in the house it just cost two dolars to get it sent home that is all it cost I mean to bie it and get it sent home and all there you can see the pike and rail road rite whare the batres stand on the hill is whare just whare our regment yard is now well it will tell you more about it than I can well mother you say that you are ashamed because you dont write more you write as mutch as I doe if you didant you would not write mutch 
 
well we had some rain last night and it is very cowle well Nettie I am very glad to here that you and Lock is going to school I like to here of that Lock I wish you to lurn to write so you can write to me about your marks and how you are geting along well Nettie you wrote a good long letter this time that is the kind I like to see I like to receive long letters from home well I must close for this time and write some more some other time girls I want you to write soon and let me kno how you are geting along
