Dear Parents & Sisters
The iron tongue of the great bell is tolling forth the hour of ten from the cupalo of the cathedrel in Louisville and I have just returned from my days duty at the train but before retireing I thought I would attempt to respond to your kinde and welcom letter that I received today and as I was writing to the boys I put it in and sent it to them, as I thought there was something concerning their indiffrance toward you that would do them good to read, though I hear / from them pretty regularly they were well the last time I heard from them. when you write to them direct their letters to them (thus) Nashville Tennessee Co. A. 2nd Batt 18th Regt Regulars. Regular Brigade 14th A.C. and they will get them as Nashville is the base of operation. I expect that I will be nearer home before long for we are ordered to Camp Denison so I understand, but I believe I should much rather stay here this winter as we are getting well fixed here and forming some acquaintances that are I might say almost dear friends and then we are living first bully here in high oats.

Well today is sunday the 20th and my letter is not finished but soon will be I was too sleepy the other night to finish it and have had too much to do since the news is here that they are having a heavy fight at Pigeon Mountain Georga and that Gen Thomas corps was repulsed. the old 18th is in that corps so I am very anxious to hear from the boys I search evry paper I can get especily Nashville papers. I take the Louisville daily journal and if I see any thing in it I will send it to you to read. I had a trip to Louisville today and walked about ten miles / over the city. the ferry lands at the foot of first Street and as I wanted to go to Hospital No 4 I went to main and down Main to 15th St where the hospital is on the corner of Main and fifteenth streets. I hardly know what to say about our mooving or going to Ohio so I will wait until we get some pozative orders we will not be likely to get any pay for two months yet then I will have eight months pay due me which will be $10400 My love to all and all of you wright soon

yours in Love and truth
Luke    to
all of you
