Head Quarters picket reserve near racoon ford Va Nov. 18th 1863
Dear Father.
Your letter of the 8 inst. was received on the 16th saying it said you had received mine of the 27th Oct. it also said I promised to write once a week if I am not mistaken I made a condition that was if I could get a chance I said in the same letter that we might move & then very likely I could not move write in over a week. I have received your letters pretty regularly for the last week.
I get the paper regularly once or twice a week the boys take great interest in the list of drafted in the saginaw papers. There has been a detail sent home from our regiment to bring the conscripts assigned to our regiment they started night before last one man went from our company.
Our company is not so small now we have had five or six join the company from dismounted camp since I wrote.
I wrote in my last what what Capt Darling said about promoting me.
Col. Mann has not been with the regiment only about a week since I came back he is sick in Washington the boys think every thing of him.
I have not received the photographs which you say Mother sent me.
I will send mine to mother if I ever get a chance to get it taken.
You wanted to know if Rolla Glover was dismissed the service I heard so do not know.
I wrote a letter on the 15th I enclosed ($25) twenty five dollars did you receive it.
I got some Medicine on the 16th of one of the teamsters & I think it is cureing me I wish you would send me Charley Voorheis directions again i have lost them.
Love to all
Your affectionate son
Wm. G. Gage.
