Dr. Sir:            On my return to Washington I found your letter of the 6th inst awaiting me. I can give you verry little of the information you desire. When Glover came into this camp I was sick but did duty. Glover at that time was not looking verry well well but I think was not excused from duty by the surgeon. I knew it would be of benefit to him and I thought also gratifying to you to have him remain in this camp and I consequently detailed him as my orderly. But as I was doing as little work as possible and as Glover was unwell I did not call upon him to do anything. Some three weeks after this I found he was detailed by his sergeant to go to the front. I then informed the sergeant that Glover was my orderly and he struck his name from the detail. Soon after I was obliged to get an excuse from duty myself. The day before I left for / Michigan on my sick leave I went to the Brig and enquired for Glover and found he had gone to the front some six or seven days before I enquired of several and all who seemed to know any thing about him said he was well when he left. I had not seen him for some three weeks. I do not think he has acquired any bad habits whatever. I shall be in the city in a few days and will see to that box of his. There will be no opportunity of sending it to him until the Army goes into winter quarters.

We hear glorious news to day from Grant—Good bye ye southern confederacy There is much said about the backbone of the rebellion but it will be a very poor bone by spring.

Remember me to Mrs. Gage and to enquiring friends

Yours truly
B. M. Thompson
