Lovick Pierce Hodnett was born on March 28, 1809, in Georgia to Benjamin Hodnett and Elizabeth Collier. His father died around 1820, and his mother followed around 1822. He married Mary Jane Taylor on January 15, 1830, in Newton County, Georgia, and they had at least eleven children: Elizabeth, born around 1832; John W., born around 1833; William, born around 1837; Jane, born around 1839; Henry H., born around 1841; Chappel, born around 1843; Georgia, born around 1845; Lovick P., born around 1847; Mary, born around 1849; Robert R., born around 1851; and Edward, born around 1852.
By 1850, Hodnett owned $10,000 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $12,000 of real estate and $25,000 of personal property, including at least one enslaved laborer. His wife Mary died around 1854, and he married Serena Thomas on December 15, 1858. Hodnett served in the Georgia militia during the Civil War. He remained in Troup County, Georgia, after the war, and in 1870, he owned $2,000 of real estate and $1,575 of personal property. Hodnett moved to Macon County, Alabama, sometime before 1880, and he died there on December 27, 1889.
