as i have not been able to drill this morning so i thought i would write you a few lines to let you know what we are a doing we arived here last tuesday we elected our officers Wm Mull for capt D. Mull 1st lieut Baxter Elliott, 2nd lieut for O. S. Dick Harbinson 1 sergt M. Adams 2 secent segt Wm Ball 3 sergt Wallace Jarvice 4 sergt Bart Dooley 1 corporal Spencar 2 Demsy Seybold 3 Axum Lewis 4 Clark Mcdaniel the others have not bin appointed yet We have just one of the bulliest set of officers in the camp i tel you they are not like the officers that i went under the other time but they are just the same as the rest of the bous i am afraid we will not keep our Capt verry long i think he will get a field officers position the recruits did not come up last evening but they will be up this evening there is from 1200 to 1500 soldiers here now and more a coming all the ti we are encamped in 200 yard of the Canall we can go in a swimming when ever we want to but then i think once a week is enough there has been 3 soldiers drouned since we came here and one died yesterday he belonged to Capt Horns Com he had just been in the service 2 weeks he died with tiphoid fever. We have an easy time here to what we had in the bloody 78. we donot have to stand gouard more than 8 or 9 times a month here and down there in K we had to / stand 3 or 4 times a week and we have a plan plenty to eat although we cannot get whiskey like we could down there but then i expect it is beter for us i have not stood guard but once since i have been here and then i need not go without i had a wanted to i stood guard for our cook we give him $50,00 apeace a month which is $6 or $8 dollars amonth
The news is now that all the soldiers from the 7th District are a going to Terrehaute to camp i donot know whether it is true or not i expect it is like a great many other orders but it does not make a bit of difference where they take me to so they keep me from uniontown i have sent my cloths in a box to Pinhook my old army pants one shirt one pair of socks a pair of drars and a pair of soes they said they did not know whether we would get paid if we did not draw or not the roll is a beating for drill and i recken i will have to quit i was a little sick this morning but i have got better i donot think i will have a more chills i have not taken all of my medicine yet Tel if he wants to go to go to the army just to come here for we have a bully time Who wouldent be a soldier in such a war as this Wel i will have to quit Just tel the girls and all the rest of them tha Bart is all right from you son B W Dooley
