Good, morning
it is with the greatest ease and pleasure that i seat myself this beautifull October morning to answer yore most kind and affectionate letter that I receved yesterday which you had written on the {19 of Sept,}
 
            I am well at this time and I hope when this Epistle reaches you it may find all of you well you did not say whether you or any of the family was well or not but then i took it for granted that you was all well.
 
            Now you know that I told you that I would quit playing cards if you said so wel i had quit before i got yore letter I havent played a game since i left Indinapolis & now you need not be afraid of me a begining the trade any more Ill give you my word on that as a true and obedient Son.
 
You said that you wanted me to read my testament wel i have read it nerly through we have not much to do here but read as we are Provos guard in town here this town is about the size of rockville we have marching orders now but i donot know when we will leave and i donot care about leaveing for i am tired of marching over these mountains as we marched 17 days & went over the Wildcat, Log, Cumberlan & Clinch mountains so you se we had a long trip of it but then i stood it like a mule for we never got enough to eat to make us get sick but then its all caused by the war as the boys would always say and im right in for / the war i would be willing to march the rest of my time if it would put this cruel rebelion down.
 
you said that you had dried a heep of peaches now I how i would like to be there just to show you how much I could eat of peach pie but save me some for ill be home a bout Sugarmaking if i live and keep my health and then we will have a good time eating biskets butter and molasses biskets costs 2 cts a peace and then they are little things at that and pies from 15 to 25 cts so you see how the money goes
 
Wel i gess ill finish my letter now by teling you to send me some postage stamps for you know when I write to the Girls i must pay for my letter you said that Miss Lizzie was a going to write to me well i received a letter from her yesterday that was dated the 3 of Oct but you need not tel any boddy of it for she might not like it if she was to hear it you know now write whenever you can make it convenient and let me know how you all do and how the things are a getting along and tel Tell to writ if he hasent forgot that he has got a brother Bart so nomore for the present
