Bulls Gap, Tenn Sunday Evenin Nov the 15th 1863
Well mother i take my seat to write you a few lines to let you know that i am in bully health at this time & all the boys are well that you know i believe the wether is cool and cloudy it rained all day yesterday an last night but we were in our little dog tents & i slep as sound as if i had been at home up stairs in a good feather bed wel ill tel you my travels since we left Greenville we got marching orders on the 6th and started down the railroad towards Belew Springs and burned 2 railroad Bridges arived at Blew Springs about 1oc at night after marching 8 miles on the railroad so we laid down on the ground untill morning next morning we took up our line of march for Bulls Gap where we arived about 3oc P.M. went into camp at Gen Willcocks head quarters Co B is detached from the Regt as head quarters guard we have a much nicer time here than if we were with the Regt we donot get very much to eat that is we donot draw verry much but then we havent / been a day without fresh pork or mutton so for we Cap Mull just lets us forrage as much as we pleas for he is just the right kind of a man presizely for a captain som of the boys are out now a forraging they will fetch in something good to eat i expect pap and tobe are nerly done a gethering corn you never wrote whether the corn was good or not but i heard that corn was verry light out there on account of the frost i received yore letter on the 4th Nov and answerd it on the 5th i will try and find & write to you evry week if i can or as often as i can some of the boys have drawed a new uniform but i donot need one yet i have bought me a watch worth $2,00 to be paid at pay day. i confiscaded this old railroad legger and thought it would do to write home on verry well any how nomore at this time but remain yore Soldier son Bart
