Dear sister I take this present chance of writing you a few lines to inform you that I am well at present and hope that you are all the same I received your letter on tuesday last and was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you were all well and enjoying good health it snowed here on monday last about two inches deep but it was not cold enough to last long it nearly all melted the /

oners said to be deserters from the rebel army the weather is very warm here at the present time it appears very much like spring the winter will soon be gone and we will hardly know where it has gone time passes away this winter faster than it ever did before so it appears to me but we will all be very glad to see spring coming in I know very well I received a letter from Martha and Rufus the day before I received yours they were all well when they wrote I got tired waiting for an answer from / aunt ruth and I wrote another one to her some time ago long enough ago to have an answer but have not received one yet our regiment is getting paid off to day and the boy are all very merry about it I expect to write to the family at home to day and I will give them a good lecturing about not writing oftener to you than they do I do not expect that our regiment will leave here untill spring but I can not say for certain for we do not know more than one or two days before hand but it is the general talk throughout the regiment that we will not leave here this winter no more at present but remain your loving brother till death write soon Thomas J Criswell
