Baltimore January 3rd 1865
 
Dear Brother
                        I suppose that you are beginning to think I had forgotten to answer your letter but I have not. well chrismas is over and new years too. I expect you enjoyed yourself very much. I did not the weather was so bad it rained all chrismas week and then pet and duck did not come on account of the weather I was very lonesome too. sliga wilson came down in the afternoon and stayed until tuesday morning all the folks in the country are well. we have have not heard a thing from John parrish yet. I expect he has been sent away from the city. Moses is home again and he says that he is going to stay home untill spring. that is if they will let him. I think he is very foolish he had better stay away untill the war is over. well willie there is going to be a wedding in carroll county either this week or next. margaret ellen pool is going to marry louis barnes. you know them both they are going to live at pleasantville in the spring in the house that aunt martha griffith lives in. quite a family / give my love to matt and all the family and keep a large share for yourself. I suppose you like your new home very much by this time. I am very glad if you do. I hope you will like it better every day. how are you coming on at school. do you learn very fast. I think that the letter you wrote me was wrote better than any that I ever saw you write. dear brother I missed you very much after you had left us I was very glad to hear that you got out safe the conductor that uncle daniel put you in charge of was was killed about a week after he was mashed to death between two cars. aunt ellen and uncle daniel send their love to you and all the family write as soon as you get this letter no more at present but I remain your loving sister untill death
