Dear Parents
Brothers and Sisters your cind and welcom letter of the 29th has been reseived and I was very happy to hear that you was all well. I are well and hope these fiew hen tracks may find you all the same. I was down to the city yesterday to see [?] that used to belong to my Co and he had reseived a letter from the regt that had the list of the killed and wonded and missing and and I are sorey to say that walter Conley was among the missing. thay dont no what has become of him, wheather he is killed / a prisenor thay dont no but think a prisenor and thare is also 5 or 6 more that are missing.
well you can tell mr conley that walter is missing from the Co but dont no wheather he is killed or nott and I will write just as soon as I can find out.
I think I shall write to the regt. to day or to morow to find out about the boys, how meney thare is killed and wonded and how meney thare is missing and if I can gett the list I will send it home and also the place thay was killed or wonded. well thare is nott eney news to write this time in particular onley grant is still fightting
mother you said that you was getting wearey of thinking of the horor of war. but you must keep up good couredg for I think that we will all be at home soon if nothing happens. my wond is well but I think I shall stay hear a while. mother what is the reason that lucy nor betsey ann dont rite I have writon 2 or 3 times and have not reseived eney answer from them nor I shant write again if I never hear from them if thay dont to me I have writon last and furst, and that is the end. I have nott hurd from the boys yett onley as you have told me. mother I have a picture that I are a goin to send home in this letter of a / young man by the name of Edward Ferrand who was wonded in the wilderness and died in the hospital whare I wer and he give it to me and I have also gott some of the rest of his things that I are a goin to send to his folks as soon as I can find out whare thay live well I must close for this time so Good bye give my best respects to all of the young folks.
