Dennis E. Robinson was born around 1819 in Granville, Massachusetts, to Elizur and Patty Robinson. By 1850, he was working as a mechanic in Granville and helping care for his aging mother. By 1860, he was working as a cigar manufacturer, and he owned $100 of personal property.
He supported the Union war effort. In July 1861, he observed that “war, war, war…is the prevailing topic here & I hope it will be none the less so until an honorable peace is conquered & Treason tho ever so strong be obliged to succumb to the might of Freedoms strong arm.” He hoped that God would “speed the day when the United States shall be free from Traitors.”
He married Emma D. Scarle on January 4, 1863, and they had at least two children: Martha, born around 1865; and Clement, born around 1867. They lived in Granby, Connecticut, and by 1870, he owned $340 of real estate and $700 of personal property. He died in Granville on January 1, 1875.
