Dear Son I received your leter and was glad to have a leter from you

 

The Mair is not with foald unless she stole it I never caried her to horse I suppose it ma for the best to sell the pig you must try raise some pigs so as to get some of the breed

 

I want you to rite all about the affairs at home and about there I should lik to no what is goining on there

 

Tell Maryann Humpfreys that I brought some of the apples she gave me I had had as much some of them as much as a fort night after I got out here

 

I saw the Marcial House where Elsworth was shot when I went throgh Alexandria it is about two ½ miles from there out to ware the Main third is encamp

 

I intend to go down to the City soon & spend a day in viewin the wonders there is two Regiments here with us you cant go in enny direction without seeing encampment of Soldiers there is four Regiments within 200 rods of us besides the thre that is on the / ground with us I am geting tired & it is get in about bed time

Jan the 14        it commenced snowing last night in the night & it is snowing now whe lost another of our men last night I have got to detail eight men besides the music a private is entiled to an escort of 8 men & a Copporal besides the music this will make four of our men have buried of our men besides some of other Companys whe march arms reversd by bringin the gun under the right arm barrel down the left hand hold of the cok the right arm a crost the back grasp the barrel with the rigt hand whe fire three times over the grave after the body coffin is lowerd in the grave
