                        Dear Sister this is to inform you that I am well at presant hoping thes few lines may find you all enjoying the same good blessing. As for news I hav nothing worth your attention that is reliable. It is reported that Vixburg has fallen but it is not beleaved or at least we doant want to bleave it. It is also reported that Washenton Sitey is in our posession and Memphis hav ben retaken We had a Battel at helana on the missisippi River and got baddley cut to peaces. We sucseaded in taking the place but was not able to hold it our loss was 800 eaight hundard killed and wounded The fedderl loss is not yet nown, our Regment was not in the figt we was down on the Missisippi R a piceting if it be so about Vixburg being taken we will hav som hard old fun on this side of the Missisippi River & I hav no dout but Texas wil be invaded. The helth of our Regment is very good more so than it was last year Capting Kinsey is giting well & will be able to take command of his company 
 
You all must write to me. I want you to write what becom of old man Lewises Sunanlaw wether he was killed or not So as I am in a grait hurey I must close Give my best lov to all the members of the famely. no mor at present
