Little Valley
July 28th 1864
 
My Dear Friend
                        I recd your kind missive last evening and was glad to hear from you and to know that you was well and doing as well as you are I hope you will soon have the entire use of your arm for I know the inconvenience of having the use of but one arm
 
            I am well and having a very good time better than I had anticipated before coming home / I was glad to hear from you in our vicinity when I got home I think the Little Valley folks like the Soldiers about as well as any body
 
            Well Eaph I must stop writing for a little while for the girls are ready and I must go calling a little while
 
            Home again all right and am going to the Valley this afternoon I presume there will be an other picture taken this afternoon if the whole group is there there is a concert at the Valley to night think I shal have some fun if nothing happens 
 
Give my respects to Sam and tell him I will write to him when I get time
 
            I presume Laura will keep you posted upon the gossip of Little Valley She told me she recd that letter yesterday I think it would be dagerous for you to come to Little Valley again
 
            You must excuse me for not writing a longer letter this time for I am going to the Valley soon and must stop writing I hope you will stay there at the Hospital this fall for we will have a good time /
 
            Give my respects to all the Boys in the Hospital tell Bailey that I am doing well my arm is nearly healed
 
            I will think of you this afternoon when I get with the girls Tell Frank that it hasent used me up yet as it did him that night he and Jim went down town give my respects to Jim
