Your welcome message was received yesterday bearing date –J_e 4th and as this is the onley way we have to communicate with each other I hasten to reply. I am usualy well excepting a lame shoulder from the effect of a wound that I received at Spotsilvany on the 12th of May 1 year & one month / ago to day.
 
            tell Sanborn I would like to see him and Rich but as it is most impossible for the present time I'll live in hopes for the future.
 
            I was verry sorry to come off as I did for I expected to stay to Washington and Alexandria untill the next friday but I couldent and be half way contented after receiving the news from home that I did. Mother is a little better and on the gain so she sits up some and have all most made up my mind to come / back down there if she gets smart.
 
            Nichols they are not to work on the railroad now but they expect to the first of July & if they do I presume the will be some kind of a chance for you & I'll let you know if the is. tell Sanborn I would like to visit the Lager Reg if I was in reach. I have got a good box of segars but no beer only as I go to town for it. tell Rich to write me a line Miss Morris sais she received no letter from Mr Rich. if so she would have answered it. I have written to Ella / again but get no answer I will send my first and last for that matter for Rich to read as that was the agreement. then send it with the returns of this note. I must bring to a close hoping to hear from you Mr Sanborn & Rich soon My compliments to them both for a glass of lager & game of 7 up or Ucar.
