Ephraim E. Brown to Mary D. Babcock, undated
Mary I spose you want to know about how things stand for the 4th So I will endevor to say I cannot verry well and for these reasons. first I dont want to come on the cars again for it dont pay to come up there and lay around & not have any chance to run round or have any chance to see the Soldiers and I havent got my colts broke yet and Charley thinks he must have the horse and buggy So you see it makes it rather unconvenient for me and I should not want to start for with the intentions of comming back under 2 weeks and dont spose Father would want to spare the horses for that length of time. But could take any thing he / has got, if I onley said so. now dont you think that is reason enoughf. I will now say I intend to break my colts after the haying and then I will be up there towards fall about Fair time and then I think we will go to the Fair if they have any. now dont you think those are a good excuse now if you get a good chance to atend some ball on the 4th go and enjoy it just the same as though twas me for I want you to loose no time on my account. You know what I ask of you & tis no more than you do of E. I want to come but want a team to come with. So things will be more pleasant I spose you have got lots of grass for my old [?] to fill up on but dont tell any one when I am coming I wrote on the other sheet as I did so you could give up this and not let any one see it now M— write in your next if you are satisfide with the proposal in this note. I would give a good eal for your company this lonesome night I have lots of trash & travels to tell you Dear M—y but I'll wait till I see your graceful face write often and rember your E.E.B. for I wil rember Mary
are you satisfide with this crap if you get a chance which is respectable improve your time for I can trust you above all others
