Mrs Anna Ohier i receivd yore letter this morning and it give me grate plaseure to her from you once more i ame well at presant and i hope when these few lines come to hand thay may find you well i have nothing very strange at this time to wright i have not ben sick but one day sence i left home we ar in camp a bout 4 mils south of darnstown maryland and a bout one half mile from the potomac we wer at Conards fery and lay on the banks of the river / wher a battle had ben fought the day before i seen several of the dead and wounded as thay brought them a cross to wher we was Col Baker was shot seven times as our men crossed the river before thay could all get over the rebels came on them thay being uniformd like our soldiers thay could not distinguish them from our boys untill thay seen thare flag a coming out of the woods close by and our boys fought like men untell the rebbels out numberd them fore to on when our men wer told to shift fore them selfs when thay took to the / river sum swam a cross sum crossed in a small boat and several wer lost in the river a little drumer about six years old swam the river with his drum be fore him and such a site i never witnessed before to see the dead and wounded and to here thare groans but fore liberty or death i say allthough life is sweet to me i shall stand by the flag of my native land untill death takes me a way i want you to let me no whether Richard fisk has got home or not and whether he can her good or not if he is at home i want him to rite to me / as soon as possible
i ame a trying to live a cristian life i tend to prars and if i die in the field i expect to go to that haven of rest wher parting is no more tell frank hall to live a cristian so as if we meet no more on earth we may meet in heaven tell matildia allben and Silina Ohar i would like to her from them tell the ladies i am much oblig to them for wrighting what thay did to me is thar wood at home or not i have rote several times and got no answer
