Dear Sir
Tis with plesher that I seat my self to pen afew lines to let you no that I am still in the land of the blest or the land of the cursed jest which you air aminto call it for I dont no hardly what to call it for it is so lonsom down hear that it makes it bad Well we air having very bad weather at presant but it looks as if it is gointo be beter soon I supose you air having nice times up there making shugar and so on Well I should likto go up there to help do it but cant very well as they dont let such felows as me go jest / where we air aminto you see But if nothing hapens to me more than I think of jest now the day will com when I can go where I have aminto But it is a good long while bfore it comes but trust in the lord and it will be all right
Well what do you think of General Grant taking comand of the armey Do you think he will have beter success than eney of the rest have had or will he be drove back to damed City called Washington for you see his head quarters air to be with the armey of the Potomac
Well what do the folks think about it up there do they think that this sumer / stop the dam thing or not or do they think that it will last 5 years longer if so they air dam fools for it cant last so long as that eneway posebly
Well I think of much more to right jest give my love to all of my frends tell my folks that I am well give my respects to your wife also take it your self do the same to Freeman Allen and famly to
