Capt Catterson and Comrads of the deceased in Co. F. 79th Regt Ind. Vols. would respectfully submit the following inscription as a token of there high regard for the deceased

Memory of
Sargt Shelton M. Harding
who
after having bravely fought for the Union
in the
Battle of Stones River
Died in
Camp March 5th 1863
aged
Years   Months   Days
 
Inscribed upon the roll of deathless fame                               35
Should be the faithful Soldiers cherished name                        40
Whether by fell disease or sword or ball                                33
On battle field or in the camp they fall                                   32
It matters not Nor where their ashes lie                                  33
Their names should be revered who for their country die      47
