Dear Friend Gabe
I think there is indeed a letter due you by this time, but be assured I have not forgotten you for one day. my business has so taken up my mind that I could not find time to write to any of my friends. much to my pleasure I have found the school room open for my reception in all parts of the country, so I have concluded to write to you at every commencement of the school and let you know just where I am and how often I begin to teach. my place of stopping / now is the heading of this letter about 25 miles from home. I have been there nine days opened school last Monday, expect to stay here four months. my school has been small and will not be large. I will not have more than 20 scholars in all but I enjoyed it hugely last last week, and I hope to continue as nicely as I have commenced.
Our folks were all well when I left home and seemed to be enjoying a good share of peace and plenty. George and his wife are working all their time; they seem to have settled down to get a living and spend their time in hard labor.
I must congratulate you on your good success in life; may your life be a path strewed with rosies and sunshine and in addition to the most affectionate kisses you will / daily give him, give him five sweeter ones for me. I think him quite a fine goodlooking man if he looks like his picture. Is it not queer that some are so fortunate to get so many husbands and some are compeled to live alone, but God knows who to give to and who to compel to live in solitude and adversity
I must write to Jennie & Harry today for I can't wait any longer for to hear from them.
Give my love to your mother and Cousins Carrie and Beckie when you see them
With much love for you and Will I remain
Your sincere
Friend
Mary
