Louisville Kentuckey Sept the 23 1862
Sister I seat my self to let you now that I am well and hope that those few lines will find you and the rest of them well I received your leter last sunday and was very glad to hear from you I was very sory to hear that Israel Conaroe was sick wen I his letter I could not keep from sheding tears we have had some of the hardest marching to do that ever was seen last saturday morning we sruck tents at 2 oclock and started we went to Louisville and took the bardstown road and marched 11 miles and halted and staid there untill monday without our tents at 12 oclock we were ordered back to Louisville and it was a / hard march it has not rained enough her for seven weeks to wet the dust through which is shough mouth deep we got in our old camp about sundown and I had to gow on guard at night at three oclock this morning we sruck tents again and marched down to the intrenchments at Louisville I expect we will stay here untill the reble general brag comes to take the town every is excit excitment here the women and children are leaving the lower part of the city it is very likely that we will have a fight before Saturday there is some of the cleverest women her that I ever seen they wait on us with water when we are marching with water / and every thing that they have I want you to wright as soon as you can and tell Israel and all of the rest of them to wright often for I dont have mu any time to wright tell Israel to let me now whether he got the money that I sent to him by Balard I must close as I have no more time at present but remain your Brother and friend now and for ever Shelton M Harding To
