Dear Sister
I received yours of the 28th of last month and was very glad to hear that you was all well at home I have been very bad of with my back for several days Jane we have had time of it for the last three weeks I was in the fight too days wendsday we fought on the right on thursday morning we were / taken to the left wing of the line and we laid there all day with out having any thing to do friday morning we were moved up to the front line and laid there as flat as pancakes untill about three oclock the rebels comenced advanceing on us they come up four columns deep we raised up and fired on them for about five minutes and we were force to retreat and the retreat turned to a rout every man took his one road / we passed the reserve and they charged on the rebels and checked them untill reinforcements come to there asistance and the rebels gave way under the the terible fire of our baterys station on a hill and our men drove them half a mile back from where they drove we from and darkness put a stop to the terible work of death Jane I would like to be at home once more but I have gave up the idea of ever seeing / home again I got the box that you sent the day that we started from Nashville the peaches was very fine the clots I lost on the batle field I have not got a thing only what is on my back I want you to send me a package of paper and envelops for I cant get them here I must come to a close so no more wright soon
