William H. Speer to William Speer and Mary Speer, 19 April 1863
Pratt's Point Va.
April 19th 1863

Dear Father & Mother
Your kind and welcome letter of the 11th inst. came to hand last evening, and I will immediately answer it. Henry and I are both in good health. We have very nice warm weather here now.

The boys are all enjoying themselves finely. We have been paid off and the boys are a having a good time "Generally". I have nothing new to write. I am still satisfied, and willing to fight for my Country. There has been considerable talk of us moving soon / but then I cannot tell when we will move. The Army of the Potomac is healthy and all are willing to move on the enemy at any time, knowing or rather feeling confident that when we do move we will drive the enemy before us. Henry and I sent eighty dollars with our sutler to Baltimore. When he gets there he intends to express it to you at Indianapolis. Henry sent sixty and I sent twenty. Keep an account of it and do what you please with it. Richard Barnhill also sent twenty dollars to have expressed to you. Richard says for me to tell you to give it to his mother for him.

We are having a very easy time while here in camp. But very little duty to perform. We exercise ourselves playing ball, drilling &c. Ben is now our Captain & Minos Miller our 2nd Lieutenant. The vacancies in the non-commissioned officers, and the 1st Lieutenancy of our Company have not been filled yet. Probably I can give you all of their names the next time I write. I believe there is one of my pictures all all of my brothers & sisters houses except Bob's. And enclosed is one for him. It cost me one dollar just as it is. Please write soon. Don't forget to send me a few postage stamps every once / in a while. Give my love and respects to all enquiring friends and believe me to be as ever your son
Harry.
