Company "I" 7th Indiana Volunteers
February 27th 1864
Dear Brother
Yours of the 19th came to hand last evening. I was very glad to hear that the small-pox has spread no further. Glad to hear that you was all well at home. I am happy to inform you that henry and I are both in very good health. hope this may find you the same.
I am sorry to say that I got disappointed in getting my furlough. I made an application for a furlough and it was approved at Brigade & Division Head Quarters, but at Corps Head Quarters it was disapproved, so I will not get to come now.
We saw a great number of troops marching today towards the front. I would'nt be surprised if we would soon have to move.
The weather is very warm & pleasant. We are having such a nice time here that I hope we will not have to move for a while yet. The health of the Regiment is extremely good. over /
We drill twice a day, Company drill in the morning and Battallion drill in the evening.
I do not know when I will try again for a leave of absence. But as soon as I think there is any prospect for me to get one I will try. I could have recd a furlough some time ago by going into the Veteran Corps, but I do'nt like that method of getting furloughd
It is now nearly time for the mail to go out and I will close. I sent you two small books by mail today, keep them for me. I sent also the "Waverley Magazine" to Mollie.
Hoping that I may have the pleasure of reading another letter from you at an early date I remain
Your Brother
Harry
P.S. You did not tell me what W stood for in your name?
