Dear Brother,
Today we learn that we can send home a letter by mail. But we can't write but a few lines. Suffice us to say that Henry & I are both well. I know you will be glad to hear that much. Today makes 9 days hard fighting. We are still a fighting. We have lossed about 200 men out of our Regiment in killed, wounded and missing. Capt Abrams was wounded through the wrist the first day's fight. Tom Williams, Henry Turpin & John Davis are also wounded. Some / three or four others of our Co. are slightly wounded.
John Caiwood, Nelson Gossett, Robt McFarland, Gideon Clark, Henry Hoodley, John Clements and Henry Calvin are missing, perhaps some of them are killed and some of them wounded. You no doubt have saw an account of the fight in the papers. We have killed & captured a great many rebels, but our loss is heavy. We are very near run down. We do'nt get half enough sleep. This is far the greatest battle that was ever fought. Henry & I have been favored thus far, and I hope and / pray that we may get through safe. We know that our friends at home will not forget to pray for us.
We will write as often as possible
Your Brothers
Henry & Harry
