Head Quarters 2nd Brigade

Dear Brother
Your's of the 9th inst came to hand yesterday evening. I was very glad to hear from home once more, for until I recd yours, I had not got any letter from home for seven or eight days. I would be glad if some of you would send us a letter at least twice a week. Your photograph looks a little natural except those "whiskers" which makes you look very odd. I think I will have a few photographs in a few days, if I do I will send you one that will beat yours considerably. (of course I mean in beauty) If you don't believe it, just ask / some of the girls, and I firmly believe that they will decide in my favor. But enough about such nonsense. I was very sorry to hear of the death of J. T. Jone's little girl. I know that Sarah Jane will take it hard. But such is life, we know not at what moment we will have to die. I was a little surprised when I read about those persons shaking hands with you thinking that it was me. I don't think that we resemble each other very much, but perhaps we do, more than I think we do.
I would like very much to have the privilege of attending writing school with you. I know you will have a good time. It appears to me very strange / that Harry Ray is so bashful. I would have supposed him to have been quite the reverse. But perhaps I would be the same. I will come over some of these days and then we will see. You advised me to not re-enlist. In answer I will say this much, I have made up my mind not to re-enlist, and therefore you need not fear on that point. I want to see the folks at home too bad to go in for three years more. But I will talk this matter over when I see you. Our time will soon be out, the 13th of September will soon roll round, and then I expect an honorable discharge and the privilege of visiting as long as I like and where I like.
Today is pretty cool, it has been sprinkling snow some today. I am now a member of the Provost Guards at Brigade Head Quarters. Wm Sargent of my Company is also here. I do not know how long I will remain here. I am having quite an easy time since I have been here. I am attending Military School. Recite once a day. Please write soon and often, and believe me as ever your Brother
