William H. Speer to William Speer, undated
Father, a few words to you. William Brown wrote a letter home for some things for himself J. H. Brown, Harry Brown, & Henry Jones, Harry Ray, Dick Barnhill, Henry & I, and for fear that you will not get that letter, I will write you nearly the same. Each of the above named wants a good pair of double soled boots. Send them as soon as possible. Also each of the above named wants a pair of pants a piece. If any of the above named articles has been sent of course you may omit sending

Send me Henry & I also a good pair of gloves & also one of my books The "Manual of Phonography" Send these with the other things. I wrote last week about that note of mine, but for fear it did not arrive, I will write again, the note in the first place was fourteen dollars. I paid J. T. Morgan five dollars leaving nine dollars unpaid. please pay off the note, and as soon as we draw any of our pay I will send you the money.

We look for our pay soon. /

We write three or four letters apiece every week and recieve as many. Our mail comes unregular. Always glad to hear of the mail a coming I have written several letters that has not been answered one to Nancy Ennis, one to John Corbaley and two or three more. They certainly have been misplaced. As letters are more apt to go by getting them franked, we will send them home postage unpaid. / Nothing more of importance to write. We send love and compliments to all.
