                   Your acceptance of the 25th and 26th, ult, are as usual, thankfully acknowledged. I shall go in two days to Matagorda, and will leave Maj Gen F. J. Herron in command of the forces here
 
            Please communicate to him whatever information you may obtain and it is also necessary you should advise him of the occurrences in Eastern and Central Texas, whenever you learn them. I shall rely on your doing so.
