Andrew Jackson Bitgood
Andrew Jackson Bitgood was born on July 12, 1845, in Voluntown, Connecticut, to Elisha and Betsey Bitgood. His father was a farmer who owned $1,800 of real estate and $500 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in Voluntown, and by 1870, he was working as a farmer. He owned $2,500 of real estate and $855 of personal property. He married Mary V. Burdick on March 9, 1875, and they had at least two children: Grace, born around 1878; and Andrew, born around 1888.
 
They lived in Sterling, Connecticut, and he worked in the “lumbering” industry. He supported the Democratic Party, and he served in the state legislature in the late 1870s. The family moved to Plainfield, Connecticut, around 1886. In 1904, he became a director of the Windham County National Bank. He died in Plainfield on April 14, 1919.
