Nial T. Childs
Nial T. Childs was born around 1830 in New York to James and Ann Childs. The family lived in Wawarsing, New York, and he attended the Flushing Institute. By 1850, he was working as a farmer. He married a woman named Almira, and they had at least four children: George, born around 1854; Ann, born around 1856; Ellen, born around 1860; and Harris, born around 1861. By 1860, he was working as a tanner, and he owned $3,000 of real estate and $500 of personal property. His wife probably died in the 1860s, and he married a woman named Marilla. Their son Howard was born around 1869. He moved to Binghamton, New York, in the 1860s, and by 1870, he owned $50,000 of real estate and $30,000 of personal property. He supported the Republican Party, and he served in the state legislature in the early 1870s. He died of paralysis in Binghamton on July 14, 1887.
