Friend id i recived your kind and loving letter yesterday and i was glad to hear from you id i hav bin very sick since i last roat you but i am a gitting beter now shelt is well at presant and we have bin a eating partch corn as we lik it better than we do sheat iron crackers and fat meat as that is all that we hav got to eat and sum of the meat has got / skipers livs a nuf in it to walk i throwed sum of it a way to day and capt Fuqua asked me what i dun that for and i told him that if i put it in my haversack that it would squeal and then he would hav me arrested for steeling a hog but id us soldiers must git ust to all of this shelt and me had a good mess of beens the other day and to day we hav got peas that i got one mile from the camp this morning id lutendent Johson has gon home and i am glad of it i think that capt Fuqua will go soon id this is a nice cuntry here but the folks ar all secesh and we cant go a round much we haft to stay in camp all of the time and drill eight hours ever day and / that dont giv us much time to write i dont know how long that we will stay here but i think not long id i am glad to here that you hav got a good crop and that produce is such a good price id i am sory to here that the old liners hav caried the day as much as the hav i suspose that they feel mity big over it but i think that it will be all rite a gane when the war is over id tell laz that i would like to see him i think that i could tell him a grate a bout the life of a soldier for a man that is not in the sirvis cant tell any thing a bout the hard times that we hav i hope that it wont be long till we will all be at home a gane and hav our freedom as we once had tell little id / that i would like to see him and all of the rest of the famley and tell laz to write to me for it dos me a grate deal of goo to her from home i sum times git out of hart for i am so tired of eating fat meat and sheat iron crackers for you know that i never did lik fat meat but we haft to eat that or nothing id it is a gitting late and i am a gitting tired so i will haft to cum to a close by bidding you a happy good nite your friend
