William H. Speer to Sandford Speer, 17 February 1862
Camp Cheek Va Feb 17th/62

Dear Brother,
Yours of the 10th came to hand today, and I was glad to hear from home once more, and I will now make an attempt to write you a few lines in answer to it. I am in good health and I hope this may find you in the same health. As I have been writing to our folks, and one letter to Bob, I have / nothing of very much importance to write, but as I am sending my pocket diary home, when you get it you can look over it if you want to and you can see and read more than I can write. But you will not find anything in it later than 1861, but probably you can find something in it that you have not heard.

Well Sant I would like to be there and go a sleighing some of those pretty nights. I anticipate that I could have a good time. But hold on until I get back and then I will make it pay. I am much obliged for those fancy pictures But I am at a loss to know who sent them. But I  will dispose of them somehow. So no more. please write soon
