Camp near Aquia-Creek Va. Nov 23d 1862
Dear Brother,
Your letter of the 11th came to hand a few days since, and I will now answer it. I was glad to learn that you were all in good health. But I was a little surprised when I heard that you had sent our boots &c to Hagerstown. I dont know whether we will ever get them or not, for if you will look at the map you can see that I am a long distance from there. We are camped between Fredericksburg and the Potomic river Virginia
I wrote yesterday to Henry and told him to try and get them things before he came to the Regiment. It would'nt take him very long to go over from Frederick to Hagerstown. We will try and manage some way to get them. But we have not needed them yet, for we have not had any cold weather yet.
We have been marching nearly every day this last week, and it rained almost every day, which made it very hard, disagreeable marching. But today is clear and warm.
How long we will remain here, or in what direction we will go from here, I am unable to say. There are various reports. Some say that we will go direct to Richmond, others say that we will get on board of transports and go down to North Carolina. Others say Washington, home, and almost every other place. So that it is impossible to tell anything about where our destination is. I prophecy we will not stop long until we are in the Rebel Capitol (Richmond)
I must say that I was a little surprised to hear of Lizzie Reed and Marsh a getting married. But of course I had no objections. But I do not admire her choice very much But every one to their own notion.
We have not been paid off yet, and there is no prospect of our getting paid soon. Col. Gavin commands our Brigade at this time. I am in very good health Please write soon and tell me all the news and send me a few postage stamps.
