Detailed History

Owned and managed by Anne (Jean) Clore and her brother, William Clore. The singer, Lena Horne, and Marva Louis, the nightclub singer were guests in 1944. Louis was married to Joe Louis, the heavyweight boxer, who also stayed at the hotel in 1941. Jean Clore was a member of the National Council of Negro Women and also a delegate to the Assembly of Women in 1946/1947, which was an early United Nations Committee.
