The Lewis Hotel This hotel is listed in the Green Book at 200 Cabarrus Street, Raleigh. It is unclear whether the address should be East or West Cabarrus Street; it may also be 220 instead of 200, as well. The DeLuxe Hotel occupied 220 East Cabarrus Street by 1954. Before that, Lucille Griswold rented furnished rooms at this location. Just to the east of the building was – according to the 1952 City Directory – an alleyway named Lewis Lane (although on the 1950 Sanborn map it is labeled Adams Alley No. 2). I think it is likely that the Lewis Hotel and the DeLuxe Hotel were the same building. —Andrew S. Edmonds
