Motel from 1925-1987; originally segregated for whites, then in 1942 converted into all-black motel with many famous black guests and recording artists; MLK assasination assasinated here 4/1/1968; converted in 1991 into the National Civil Rights Museum; listed on NRHP as contributing to the South Main Street Historic District.
