Description

192 Clinton St. does not exist on available maps of the time.

The 1926 Sanborn Map for Buffalo shows 194 Clinton Street as a two-story building. Facing south on Clinton Street, the wooden frame house had a one-story porch. The porch had composition roofing while the main block had shingles. Behind the house to the north, there was a free standing, two-story dwelling. This building was listed as 194 ½ Clinton Street.

The 300 block of Perry Street was the site of the former Delaney Forge and Iron Corporation, which on a 1925 Sanborn map was shown as severely damaged by fire. In 1939, 330 apartments were built in this location. Row houses apartments and six high-rise units were added later.

Detailed History

Mrs. George Chase (née Bishop) operated a tourist house from her home on Clinton Street. From 1939-1953, the address was listed as 192 Clinton Street, an address that seems inaccurate. In 1954, the address was corrected to 194 Clinton Street. Mrs. Chase moved to 312 Perry Street sometime between 1957 and 1959. It is likely she lived in one apartments built as public housing. The site is slated for redevelopment in 2024 to provide up-to-date affordable housing.
