Description

From 1948-1952, the Green Book listed Polly's at 403 Jefferson in a two-story building with a composition roof. On the front of the building, there was an open frame porch, one story in height. The roof was covered with a non-combustible material. 403 Jefferson is on the east side of Jefferson between William and Peckham. While this structure was labeled a store on the Sanborn map, the address may have been a typographical error as advertisements from 1952-1955 list Polly's address as 483 Jefferson.

Detailed History

Advertised as "a fine place to meet with friends," Polly's Tavern at 483 Jefferson was located in a largely residential area five doors down from Liberty Baptist Church and across the street from another Green Book site, Rena's. The tavern was destroyed and now in its place are residential homes.
