Detailed History
In 1959, the Daily Defender reported that a 210-room addition would be constructed at the Hotel on Waikiki (Nov. 9, 1959, P. 11). Initially constructed in 1955 by the Matson Steamship Line, it was sold to the Sheraton Hotel as part of their luxury resort hotels. Princess Kaiulani was the last heir to the royal Hawaiian throne and the building is constructed on her former estate.
