Detailed History

Based on the Sanborn Map, there was an apartment building at this address. A 1959 newspaper article identifies it as the Walker hotel. It was demolished between 1957-1966 for construction of I-94. The alignment of Rondo Ave changed to follow the path of the highway, which truncated Carroll St. Rondo Ave was later renamed Concordia Ave and then restored to its original name.

Reuben (or Rubin) Floyd was not found in 1940 or 1941 city directories, when the name appeared in the Green Book. Additionally, 379 Carroll was listed as vacant in the 1940 city directory. However, Rubin Floyd is listed in the 1940 census at 379 Carroll St (understood to be Carroll Ave today) with 11 others. His job was manager of a hotel & cafe. Rubin Floyd is later listed in 1948 city directory at 778 Rondo Ave.
