Description

The 1950 and 1957 Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps show the south side of this block of South Ave full of a series of attached brick buildings, a stark difference from the vacant lot there today. The maps show that 116 South Avenue is a two-story, brick building with a noncombustible roof and a one-story frame rear addition with a composition roof. The map identifies the building as a restaurant. The business most likely had rooms for rent on the upper floor. A two-story dwelling brick dwelling is shown behind the restaurant. It is possible the the building at the front of the property served as the Walker House Hotel, and the dwelling behind it served as Mrs. E. Johnson's Tourist House. It is also possible the Mrs. Johnson's Tourist House was demolished between its last year of listing, 1941, and 1950.

Detailed History

Most likely same site as Mrs. E. Johnson. Note the foundation in the photo.
