Detailed History

M/M Luther B. Pookrum listed as proprietors in 1957 issue. The address of the Morocco Motel in Green Book listings from 1954 - 1955 is 800 Spencer Street. That building is also demolished. Mrs. L.B. Pookrum, Jr., of the Morocco Motel in Bristol, VA, attended the second annual convention of the Nation-Wide Hotel Association (NHA), held in Detroit in November of 1955. Due to the fact that the state line between Virginia and Tennessee runs though State Street on Bristol, some properties were listed under both Virginia and Tennessee in Green Book issues. The Morocco Motel at 1200 Moore was listed in the Virginia section in the 1956 through 1961 issues. It was listed in the Tennessee section in 1954, 1955, and 1957-67.
