Detailed History
This is now the site of the Louise Barber Davis Playground. Ms. Davis was a PE teacher at the Hampton Institute who convinced Phoebus to donate this land for a park for African American children. There were summer programs here from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. The playground was dedicated to Davis in 1980. The cafe was most likely alongside the playground.
